Does iPhone hotspot have an IP address?

Does iPhone hotspot have an IP address?

James Smith.

When I first had a mobile phone (iPhone 3G) the main benefit was that I could use it as a wifi hotspot for other devices, or even other iPhone devices. This is possible with some devices. Some have a hotspot feature built in and some have a USB port (like iPhone).

If you have an iPhone 5 then there is a little icon in the top bar that you can click on and a WiFi hotspot will appear. It has a little symbol of a "w" in a circle to indicate it is a WiFi hotspot.

So in theory it seems that all you need to do is connect a device to the phone via Bluetooth and it should work? If not why not? Answers. Yes, it does. When connected to it does appear as an ethernet device (it shows the same as when connected to the router) and that is how it connects to other devices.

But what if you are on a different network and the phone does not have WiFi? I am actually not sure what you mean by a different network. As in, if you are on the 3G network then a device can't use the phone's hotspot unless it has a hotspot of its own? No, you don't need to be on the same network as the phone, you only need to be within range. If you are on another network, then there is no way to connect to the hotspot as there is no internet connection.

The point of the iPhone hotspot is that it is used as a router. If you have an Android phone or a Nokia phone then you don't have the ability to connect to it and act as a router. The iPhone works because it uses the same software as the phone.

This is an iPad. And I don't know about the Android.

I don't really get your point. It's just using the phone as a router for other devices, so why would you need to connect to it through the phone if the phone has the hotspot functionality built in? No, I guess I misunderstood you. I thought you were saying that the phone has the hotspot feature built in and that you just need to connect a device to it.

That is true. If you are in range of the phone it will connect to the phone's hotspot.

How do I change my IP address on my iPhone hotspot?

I have been using my iPhone 5S Hotspot as a WiFi extension to my home network.

When a guest tries to access it though, they only get a 10 second time out message. To get them past the timeout I am currently setting the phone's internet address as 10.1 to force a timeout, but how do I change this setting?

If you press and hold the '1' key (on a number pad) on the iPhone for 4 seconds, the 'Reset all network settings button' will appear on the display. You can tap that to reset all your networking settings for one of the following network types: VPN, LTE or Mobile Hotspot. If you don't have these settings on your network, it won't have any affect, but it's worth a shot anyway. Otherwise I would suggest to check whether the network type you are using is supported on that iPhone. If not, maybe a jailbroken device is the better fit.

In Windows you can go to Network and Sharing Center -> Change adapter settings (under Wired section). In my experience, it usually works out fine.

You will need to add the ip address of your WLAN router and set IP ranges for different connections like a guest. Can you also try restarting the Hotspot connection and letting it go through the setup process once more? Does your DHCP server also listen for DHCPOFFER requests on 192.168.254? Do you have DHCP enabled on your AP's DHCP server? Is the WAN IP configuration the same on both the iPhone and the AP? Are there firewall rules in place to allow TCP port 67 and 68?

The only way I know of is the above mentioned method, but I have noticed Apple allows you to change this setting through its settings app and then after a restart. To my knowledge this hasn't helped yet either, but who knows. I thought that if this worked I might as well keep with the first suggestion, but I still think you should just give this a go. You know the worst that can happen? It could not work and it is just a waste of time!

That last question is actually fairly easy to find if you google the model number of your iPhone.

Can you see IP address from hotspot?

I understand that there are a ton of ways to use a hotspot, but I'm curious, can you see the IP address of a device that connects to the hotspot?

I have a hotspot I use when playing games like World of Warcraft or Warrock so that I don't get disconnected from my buddy list. Does it send the information to the ISP or does it send the info to my computer (mac)? Yes, your computer is connecting to the access point, not the other way around. Some mobile phone apps also allow you to see if you're connected to a specific access point. Usually this is done by sending an SMS (short message service) message to that access point and checking if the SMS is "answered". This has a flaw: if someone else has the same number, they will also receive the SMS message. Does it send the information to the ISP or does it send the info to my computer (mac)?
The IP address is sent to the server you're connecting to for authentication (username/password). It's then sent back to your device (as long as you've accepted it during the setup process) before allowing you to connect to the web via your browser.

I use something similar, but with an older version of wifi-direct with Ubuntu 8. Each router connects to the internet via a DSL modem, and those 2 linksys' share that connection. My pc connects directly to one of them, which has a 10/100-tbps fiber link; all others connects to the second router, which has a 10/100-tbps fiber link too.

When I'm done playing WoW, I open firefox on my desktop (192.168.22) and choose "hotspot connections" from the top-right corner.
