How can I use bright data for free?
If the data in your business does not change frequently (weekly, monthly, etc.), Bright uses the data that you provide to train its models. You can also download data from other sources for free, like the public transportation API.
For Bright to use the data for the free tier, it needs to know where you are in the world. For this to happen, we need a few details about your country of residence, like the latitude and longitude of your current location.
Let's say you want to try Bright for two months. When you sign up for the free tier of Bright, we send you a confirmation email asking if you'd like us to track your location every day. If you decline, then you won't be charged anything. This is for privacy reasons and so that we can gather as much location data as possible. However, if you accept, we start tracking your location every day for two months. You will not be charged any money.
What if I don't have an email address or mobile phone number? If you don't have either of these things, then you will still be able to train the model without having to enter your location manually. We use an existing open-source tool called geocoder.io to convert the data you provide into latitude and longitude coordinates and get an address for you.
Can I use Bright without using my location? No. Bright needs location data to train a model that will know which buses and trains will be available in your area at any given time. It would make sense to enter your location, but it is optional. You can even decline the invitation to enter your location and try out Bright for free.
Will it work on mobile? As long as you have data coverage. We recommend checking before you go out.
How often does Bright update its location-based data? Depending on the region, some areas will have live updates once per hour, while others will only see updates once a week. The more areas you provide data for, the more accurately the data becomes for both Bright and you. Please see our Frequently Asked Questions for more information.
Why am I getting a confirmation email asking if I want to let Bright track my location? This is for your privacy. It tells us that we should treat you differently.
