Does Firefox Mobile have add-ons?
If not, then I'll add my own answer to this thread since I've wanted to learn about mobile add-ons for a while.
I just installed the official Firefox browser from the Android Market. It looks pretty good so far.
Firefox Mobile doesn't seem to have add-ons? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! If it really can't use add-ons, then isn't that a major flaw in the platform? I'm sure there are ways of using them, but I haven't seen a full explanation as to how to do so. Do you know of any? It really has nothing to do with anything except lack of understanding of what makes Firefox different. It's not the platform itself, nor is it lack of a standard on how to design and implement a browser. If we go outside of this thread and try to discuss how we want things to work, we're gonna have a bad time.
True. Though being able to install extensions makes the browser easier to use. If I wanted to use a mobile version of Firefox and an addon called 'The Add-on Gallery', I wouldn't be happy.
But if Firefox Mobile has add-ons, then they will be listed as part of the installation process. That's not to say that they have to be installed (at least by me), but I could imagine them showing up on the download list as well. I think they are an easy way to customize your browser even though they are not as powerful as what the webmaster of addons.mozilla.org did for the Firefox desktop add-ons.
So what is the point of having Firefox on my phone, when I'm just going to add some extra stuff anyway? I was hoping for a bit of customization, especially if it's some sort of add-on like the one mentioned above. But if there is a way to install something like this, I don't see it, so far.
Can I add extensions to Firefox on Android?
Is it possible to add custom extensions to Firefox on Android (via the web extension API)? It works on my desktop and laptop. However, on an Android device running Firefox 34, when I try to enable it, nothing happens and my search results are still limited to the Google search engine. How does one enable the extension for Firefox on Android? While a Firefox WebExtension extension is available on Firefox for Android, it's unlikely to perform consistently since each device has unique differences and versions of Android and Firefox. See this for more details.
Instead, you should consider using something like Greasemonkey, which you can install through the App Store and perform actions that will remain on every device. Note: On other Android devices, you should use Chrome to use Greasemonkey.
