Is Proton VPN bad?
I have been looking at Vmware and recently purchased a proton VPN for my phone.
After installing the program and downloading my proton account I activated my router so that the network would be protected within my house. When connecting my phone to my wifi network I got an ip address with an error on the internet page so I reset the router connection settings to default and now I get a new error saying it will take 1-2 hours for that proton vpn server to update or get an internet connection. Can anyone please help me?
ProtonVPN is bad because it allows you to create a connection, but if your computer can not connect to the VPN server at the time of connection it shows "Connection failed" This is due to the fact that I am using a wireless IP, when connected to "wifi" the connection does not use any protocol like port forwarding, ssh, vnc, or other means of connecting, the device just connects, if connection fails no logs are shown at the terminal. You are correct that what I meant is your IP may not be secure. If you are using a wifi router this most likely isn't encrypted. The proton VPN has a setting for whether or not the firewall is on or off which is on by default. This most likely was set when creating the "connection" in IOS. Try changing that setting back to "Firewall On" so you have the benefit of the vpn connection being protected from snoopers.
This may cause issues for you. The ip and port numbers change from time to time. I could provide a link for the proton VPN site showing how this works, I'd need your email for this to be sent to you.
Ok I just got into that site where its suppose to tell you that I cant install it on my phone. If I activate my vpn it works fine but only after 1/2 hour when the proton vpn connects. Thats why im going to switch over to the firewall settings where I will be protected from any hacking but also from any changes to the ip and port setting by the vpn as well.
What is the best VPN provider? I have used various VPN providers, but I have not found a good balance between speed and security. Thanks! There's always pros and cons, as with everything there's a balance between them.
Can police track Proton VPN?
To check whether the ISP is doing any 'phone tapping', one needs to check the 'Phone' tab in Settings.
The first thing you'll notice is that it isn't using encryption for its IP addresses (even when you select 256bit). So unless ProtonVPN is running a dedicated proxy server on top of its VPN protocol which is intercepting all your traffic and re-encrypting it, or you download their clients on Windows so they can read your traffic (though, even then ProtonVPN probably won't be able to see your real IP) or you're stupid, there really is no such thing as a VPN that can protect you completely from being tracked.
But what about ProtonVPN itself? Is anyone listening to us speak when we use it? No. Is it legal? Of course it's legal. It's just a web server running a protocol.
Does it keep any logs? We can see the servers and the countries it's based in (because we have accounts), but there is no other way to find out whether or not the service actually keeps logs. Does it share any information with anyone else? Yes, absolutely. The service is free, which means it must keep logs somewhere to make sure everything goes smoothly. If ProtonVPN ever decides to sell the service or charge people for VPN services (as has been mooted in the past), this data could come in useful for them.
Do we have anything to fear then? Yes, certainly. What ProtonVPN stores may give them an edge to sell your data to other shady groups who are interested in keeping you well monitored.
What happens if ProtonVPN has to shut down? We've had nothing more than a couple of 'the server is going to be shutdown to undergo some upgrades' emails in the past few months. So it would appear that there's still some money to be made in this industry.
But who knows, maybe in future we'll be reading about someone having their car bomb go off in a coffee shop where they were reading ProtonVPN's website and realise that all those times when you went online and your IP address said 'Russia' that was because you were hiding behind Russian servers rather than being in Russia.
