How do I disable VPN on my iPhone?

Why does VPN keep turning on iPhone 13?

I just bought a new iPhone 13, and it keeps getting a VPN connection, even though I have it disabled.

The only way to shut it off is to put the phone in the settings and turn on "Airplane Mode." It also happens on my friends phone.

I have had the phone for about 4 days now, and it started doing this after I downloaded the latest software update, and it has not happened before. Is there something I need to do to get the VPN to not connect? I'm sorry but I don't have answer for you. I don't have a 13 or any kind of iPhone so it's been quite some time since I've been able to help.

However, if it does not happen again you could try and take a video and send it to your tech. They may be able to figure out the issue.

The most likely reason would because the new software is still in beta. I had a friend who got an email from Apple about a problem he was having. It was just like what happened to you and he updated his phone, had the same problem and reverted back to his old phone with the original firmware. So that is the most likely reason, try downloading the update again and see if it happens again.

I am using an iPhone 13 (original model) with ios 12.1 and I am unable to disable this as well.

I tried everything on your advice and nothing works. I can put my phone in Airplane mode, and my internet will stop working. When I turn my phone back on, it connects to the VPN.

I'm using a Mac, but this happens on my friends iPhone 13 too. He just bought his phone on February 19, so it's brand new.

Why can't I turn off the VPN on my iPhone?

I have an AT&T iPhone 4S and just purchased a new iPad 2.

I downloaded the VPN on my iPhone and now when I go to Settings/VPN I see that the option to turn off the VPN has disappeared. I was able to turn it off on my iPhone using Settings/General/Network/VPN and then turning the switch to off but I'm having trouble doing that on my iPad. Does anyone know why this might be happening?

Re: ? It sounds like you may have deleted the VPN settings. I'm not sure how to recover that, but you can try using the restore function in iTunes to reset the device.

If that doesn't work, you can try to turn it off manually by going into Settings > General > Network > VPN and then toggle the "Turn on VPN" switch to off. The new iPad uses iOS 5.0.1 which is still under NDA so I don't know what version of the VPN client you'll be able to use. If it's from the App Store, it should be compatible with the new iPad.

I have the same problem. I want to turn off my vpn but it does not work. I also installed the update that comes with the new ipad. What should I do? I am at the point where I cannot use my vpn.

I've been having this issue as well. I've tried the restore function in iTunes, but to no avail. Also, it's possible to turn off the VPN via the Settings>General>Network>VPN, but the option is greyed out for me. Is this a known issue?

I know this thread is old, but I'm having the exact same problem with my iPhone 4 and just got a new iPad. I've tried the restore function, but nothing has worked. I can turn the vpn off, but not back on. The only difference is that I'm running iOS 5.

How do I disable VPN on my iPhone?

When you use the cellular network, the wireless data is sent to the Mobile Network Operator (MNO), and then your iPhone works. This is called Tunneled Cellular Data (TCD). However, it is also possible for MNOs to make information requests from Apple's servers. These requests are called a Server-initiated Request/Session Initiation Protocol (SIRP). If they ask for info, such as your real-name information, your Apple ID password, your billing info, etc., this is called an Apple Account Information (AAI) request. Your iPhone is connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot at this time, so the iPhone requests the Wi-Fi hotspot's public IP address using the Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6). You can see the public IP address of Wi-Fi hotspots in a website such as The iPhone needs to know the public IP address of the hotspot. You can see this public IP address using the Network Utility in Settings Network VPN. You can learn more about Apple's account information request policy in If Apple gets a SIRP request, your iPhone can check if there is a VPN tunnel between the iOS device and the VPN. If it is, the iPhone only sends data over the tunnel to the Wi-Fi hotspot; otherwise, the iPhone connects to the Wi-Fi hotspot directly. If you use both Wi-Fi and TCD, you may find that your iPhone has not been able to use a public Wi-Fi hotspot because the iPhone is connected to a VPN tunnel.

In this article, I will explain how to use Wi-Fi to connect to a VPN tunnel on your iPhone. If you have questions, please use the comments section or reach out to me.

You can use a combination of Wi-Fi and TCD on your iPhone. When you use the cellular network, the data is sent to your network operator and the tunnel between your iPhone and the hotspot uses VPN technology. If you configure Wi-Fi to use the SSTP (Secure Sockets Layer Transport Protocol) protocol, your iPhone can use both Wi-Fi and TCD.
