Can I use my VPN as a proxy?
Not really, no. A VPN connects a computer to a network that uses encryption, and this means the VPN will be able to see the traffic between the computer and the server(s) that it's connected to. As such, the traffic between your computer and the VPN server will be encrypted, which means that the VPN can't see what's being sent. It will only be able to see that a request is being made to a website, or other resource, and the data that is sent. If you want to connect your computer to a remote computer that's protected by a VPN, then you'll need to have your VPN server installed on that computer, and use port forwarding to connect your computer to that computer. This allows you to access that computer's internet connection as if it was your own, but actually is being made from your computer. You can read more about this here.
Can I use my VPN as a safe browsing proxy? Yes. Some people also use VPNs as a safe browsing proxy. This means that your traffic is encrypted when it goes through the VPN, so you can access secure websites without worrying about the content of the sites being seen.
What's the difference between an encryption/VPN and a proxy? An encryption/VPN (or any kind of VPN) is usually used to protect a network from outside attacks, and the traffic is encrypted as it travels through the VPN. This means that the VPN will be able to see the traffic, but not decrypt it. The main benefit to using a VPN is that the traffic is encrypted, and therefore harder for someone to see. When you use a VPN you can access resources that you normally wouldn't be able to access, because the traffic is encrypted.
A proxy is normally used to bypass a censorship or restriction that is in place, and the traffic that is passed through the proxy is not encrypted. This means that the proxy can see the traffic, but cannot decrypt it, and therefore is unable to access the restricted content. For example, the UK uses the Great Firewall of China to filter out certain types of content, so you can't access certain websites. The websites that you do access are filtered, so your requests are passed through the proxy.
What is PureVPN proxy?
A PureVPN proxy is a virtual private network (VPN) that provides extra protection for your online activity. It works like a VPN but with one key difference: You don't need to connect to a VPN server to use it. With a PureVPN proxy, your device automatically establishes a secure connection to the VPN server when you make a request to a website.
The idea behind this is that PureVPN can act as a man in the middle, and in doing so, make sure that no one else can access your online activities. The way it works is that your device connects to a VPN server, but your Internet traffic never makes it there. Instead, it's rerouted by a system of tunnels and decoys to a secure proxy server that can then securely route the traffic.
A VPN acts like a shield, allowing you to be online even if your ISP blocks some sites, but this only works if you actually connect to a VPN server. If you want to make sure that no one can see your online activity, you have to use a proxy. And that's exactly what a PureVPN proxy does.
Another benefit of a PureVPN proxy is that it doesn't rely on being connected to the internet to work, making it a useful tool to use while traveling. This also makes it perfect for those who need to access blocked content at work, school, or at public Wi-Fi hotspots.
How PureVPN proxies work. PureVPN's proxies work by creating a tunnel through the Internet to a proxy server, and once the request reaches that server, it sends the data to the original destination. But there's a catch: Since the proxy server is never directly connected to the internet, it's completely secure.
Because there are no servers to connect to, the connection speed between your device and the proxy server is far better than any other VPN. It even offers ultra fast speeds that get closer to the internet's maximum speed. The connection is encrypted using the OpenVPN protocol, which offers strong security and allows you to have a safe connection without worrying about connecting to a server.
You can also choose to run the proxy on a specific port, so you can ensure your online activities are completely secure. For instance, if you're connecting to Netflix, you can use the port 80 proxy.
Does PureVPN have SOCKS5?
PureVPN's app has a settings menu, and has some kind of network status that says it supports SOCKS5 (not sure why, but it does), but it doesn't explicitly tell you where in the app they add that functionality. It also lacks some of the other handy bells and whistles found in popular competitors, such as being able to set up auto-connect. In short, it works as well as any other VPN for basic browsing speeds and connection, and would be the least worst if it wasn't for PureVPN's lacklustre features.
Why use SOCKS5? If you've got a device that doesn't have native VPN support, or needs to run a local service on your device, like OpenVPN for example, then SOCKS is the way forward. The great thing about SOCKS5 over and above the others is the fact that it's just as easy to configure on devices with apps that don't natively support VPNs.
For example: Google Chrome: The SOCKS protocol is built into this browser, so you're good to go. Firefox: This browser doesn't actually have its own built-in SOCKS5 support, so you'll need to download and install one via Addons-addons.mozilla.org. As with most other addons this one's very simple to configure; just click the "Add." button next to Socks Version (under Options), and enter "socks://yourpublicdnsip" as the SOCKS Host and Port and press "Add". Now your Firefox will automatically start tunneling your traffic through SOCKS before it gets to your actual DNS provider.
Opera: This browser also lacks a built-in SOCKS 5 implementation, so you'll need to use an addon again. Go to the Extensions tab, enter "socks5proxy.com" as the Website, use port 1090 as the Port, and enter "yourpublicdnsip" as the username and the private IP address you'd like to connect to as the password.
Microsoft Edge: As with Opera, this browser isn't designed for tunneling your traffic. It uses the Microsoft proxy settings, but you'd need to create a shortcut of a command to manually change the proxy to use that particular domain.
How do I change my proxy on PureVPN?
If you have your settings set to automatic and the VPN fails on startup or stops working after connecting to a specific URL, then it's likely the problem is with your connection to the proxy server. To fix this problem, you'll want to change your IP settings. However, it can be a bit tricky. There are two ways to change your proxy setting on PureVPN.
The first way is with VPN-Connect. This application will let you change your VPN settings (like location, username and password), and then reload the page so that your new settings take effect. Then, you'll have to disconnect and reconnect. However, you won't be able to use a lot of other features of the application. So, for example, you won't be able to use a number of advanced browser extensions like NoScript, Adblocker Plus, BetterPrivacy, etc.
The second way is by using our PureVPN client. Simply follow the instructions below. If you are using this method, I recommend you also use VPN-Connect. For information about why, read about the VPN-Connect app in the guide. Also, please note that there are multiple methods to connect to a proxy, but for the most part, they all involve connecting through a specific hostname. If you aren't aware of that already, here's an article that will help. Finally, if you have multiple VPN providers and you'd like to use another one, you'll need to do so individually or use a proxy server that's independent of your VPN provider.
PureVPN VPN-Connect settings. From within the VPN-Connect window, go to Settings > Proxy > Set > New Connection. Make sure you tick the option labelled "Use proxy server". Once done, confirm by pressing "OK". Click the option "Apply changes", and then "OK" to close the window. A new window will open (this is the proxy server window) and you need to select a server. You can change this by clicking "Refresh" and changing the server location until you find the most convenient. Just keep in mind that you will still need to reconnect to the VPN after you select the proxy server.
The second option involves using the PureVPN client. For information about how to use the client, refer to this guide. Just go to Preferences > Network, select your country, and change your IP settings from Automatic to Custom.
