How do I remove Google from Digital Wellbeing?
When you're finished using the Google app, you'll have a little button on the bottom of your phone that says "Remove Apps". Tap that and your Google apps will be removed from Digital Wellbeing. If you ever want to reinstall the Google app or any of the other Google apps, you'll have to restore the system first. If you need help restoring your system, read the troubleshooting instructions here.
Why should I take away the "Remove Apps" option when I'm finished using Google? If you want to re-use your phones Google apps but not your "Google Account" you need to do this trick. When you're done with your google account (not necessarily with all of its associated apps), go to system settings > security. Look for "sign in to google and apps with the following account". If this is enabled, then you cannot switch it off - the switch only disables the switch.
Now we can disable it completely. Just go to digital wellbeing. You'll notice the "remove apps" button. Now tap on it. Your apps will be uninstalled. To install back, just reinstall the entire system!
Why does Google need permissions to my data and my calendar? When using one of these apps Google only needs permission to access specific things (for example, the ability to access notifications). The apps that are being used must not use a lot of permissions (and those they do use need a reason).
Can you remove the Google App without installing the Google Play Store? For certain use cases, you can remove the Google app while still using the Google services that have been installed on the phone. First you need to check that you don't have the Play Store installed: Open the Settings app. Navigate to "Apps". Scroll down and find "Google Play Store" and tap it to open it. Tap "Uninstall".
