How do you force a factory reset on an iPad?

Can you factory reset an iPad with just the buttons?

No.

It is not possible to reset the iDevice in this way, and using the button interface requires a computer. This is because Apple designed its devices to use the Secure Erase service. To unlock your device, you need the passcode you set up when you first registered it with iTunes. There are other ways of bricking an iDevice though. You can either turn the device off, or turn it on but then turn it off again while it boots (this will turn off the Secure Erase process, which also means you lose any data on it). Other methods require more access to a computer, such as jailbreaking or the use of an iOS-unlocking program such as GreenPois0n. Either of these programs would also void your warranty.

Can I use the iMessage sticker. Yes. The same email that you use to register your iDevice will work. However, you can only send it within the 30 days that your new device warranty runs after you activate it.

Why doesn't my new MacBook Pro have sleep mode? Sleep mode helps save power when you're away from a power outlet. This helps Apple keep laptops running longer on a single charge. Macs use a technology called Energy Saver, which slows down all the power-hungry components of a machine until there is sufficient time to recharge the battery. Most machines take about 20 minutes to enter sleep mode, which cuts everything down to 1/10th of a percent and puts most functions to sleep. This is why computers can run for months without recharging. When you turn your Mac back on from sleep mode, it wakes up quickly and runs much faster than it does from cold start.

What happens if I forget my Apple ID password? This is an important question because it may mean the death of a number of other Apple services. Every Apple device comes with a login screen that allows you to type in your Apple ID. For an iPhone, that is the Apple ID you created when you set up the device, and there will be an option to get in touch with customer service. Many of the other Apple services you used to get access to can still be accessed through the Apple website at

How do you force a factory reset on an iPad?

I've been trying to force a factory reset on my iPad 2 to get rid of some of the apps that I don't use or am trying to remove them, but it's proving to be a bit of a chore.

If anyone has any suggestions, please post them! :) 1 Answer. 0 votes. When you are trying to do a factory reset, you will need to use iTunes. Open iTunes on your computer, and plug in your device. Click on the Sync tab, and click "Sync". Make sure to click "Apply" when the sync is complete. This should give you a screen similar to this:

In the box with the "Restore iPhone" options, choose "Back Up Now". After your phone is backup, go into Settings, then tap General, and then tap Reset. When it shows up, tap on the Reset button to do a full factory reset. The settings for your email, address, WiFi password, etc. Will be deleted. Be sure to back up your data before doing a factory reset.

Your iPad will now be set back to the way it was originally, without any apps or other content, and it should be as good as new. It will be a fully functional device again, without the apps you've removed.

If you are not doing a restore, or don't want to do a restore, you can go to the Settings app and tap on "General". Tap on Reset, then tap on Reset All Settings. This will do a normal factory reset, but you have to choose the Restore iPhone option.

The reason you can't just do a normal factory reset is that by doing it, the original apps, and pre-installed content is gone. So you have to restore, then set your device back to factory settings.

How do I force my iPad to reset with the home button?

My 4-year-old got it stuck between his keys and the wall so hard.

It's locked up - he can't even get in to unlock it.

If I were to let him in, the iPad would still be locked up with the home button on the screen. I'd have to do something with it in order to reset it. But there is nothing on the home button to reset it, so how do I "reset" it?
Any ideas? You would have to remove the sim card (if present) then restart the iPad normally. You don't have to connect the iPad to iTunes or anything. Once it is re-connected, Apple may attempt to boot into setup where you can press your button to set the device, and when finished pressing your button will set the device.

For your case, it's just a re-boot of the iPad as the home button is not a feature of the actual operating system, but rather a software function that is triggered by a button on the front of the tablet. In most instances, pressing this button will only restart the iPad as this button is not what triggers the boot to the Setup page, though it will also display the first menu presented on boot.

If you want to completely wipe the device (as stated in the comments), just keep holding your finger down on the side button for 7 seconds until the screen goes completely white. The battery is still alive and well!

Apple has a help article that should provide you with what you need to do. However, I'll expand on some things that are not mentioned in the article.

Start by plugging your iPad into your computer using the USB cable it came with. Next, open iTunes and sign in to your Apple ID. Make sure you have a backup of all the files you want to save (this is not needed for non-geek users).

Now click on your iPad in the upper right hand corner of iTunes and make sure that "Erase All Content and Settings" is selected from the pop-up menu. Your iPad should be fully restored to factory settings.

If you can't access your iMac, you could try accessing it via the web browser on your iPad. In Safari, type in www.itunes.com and tap the "Enter" button. Your iMac will probably be listed as the site's home page.

If you have been using a third party app that saved its files in iCloud or iTunes, then you will have to delete these apps first before you can remove their data from the cloud. Otherwise, your files will be intact, but you will be unable to access them on your iPad.

I think it's important to note that when you erase your content, you are erasing ALL of your content on your iPad. You may want to back up your iPad before you do this.

You can also restore your iPad from an iTunes backup. In iTunes, right-click on your iPad and select "Restore". Select "Use iTunes Backup" from the menu. Enter your Apple ID and password and tap the "Restore" button. This will restore your iPad to its factory settings.

Also, if you forget your passcode, then you won't be able to access your iPad and you won't be able to unlock it using the Touch ID feature either. The only way to do this is to wipe the iPad and then set a new passcode.
