Which VPN is best for static IP?
I read that all these solutions are useless to me because my computer has to change IP if connected to any wifi.
So, what other solutions do you suggest?
My internet provider doesnt give me dynamic IPs, which is the reason why I am looking for a VPN service. I found out that I can use noip2 but it takes alot of bandwidth/storage space and some more features I dont need. I'm also confused with the whole static vs dynamic issue. I mean. You don't have any access to your IP anyway, right? So does your computer get a new one when you go on-line? If so, then maybe it doesn't really matter what is your ISP's IP really going to be. But I can see how this could be an issue with some users, and that's fine I guess.
With that said, I do realize I am speaking like I know everything, but it doesn't change the fact that I AM REALLY LACKING A LOT OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE IN THIS ARE. And you seem to have a good knowledge on it, so that makes me think that you would be able to answer a good majority of questions that I have to answer.
So let's say. We'll take some example. Say I just go on-line. My IP will be in range 192.168., I guess. (isn't this the default value for windows 7?)
But how do I get to that IP? What's to stop me from putting my computer on the router at home, using my connection from there, and then I would have a dynamic IP of some sort. (right?) The only possible option here seems to be a VPN service, and I've done a bit of research on this, and I'm having a hard time finding the ideal solution, not just by asking, but via reading. If you can give me some advice or help, then I'd greatly appreciate it. =) Thanks
Thanks to everyone who will be/have been giving me information =). Re: Static vs dynamic (a little slow, but working). You can have a static IP on your computer, or a dynamic IP.
Can I get a static IP for free?
I'm new to hosting. I've used BlueHost and I really liked the service. I've had a static IP for years now, and never had any problems. They're not the cheapest option, but they're worth every penny.
If you want a static IP, you need to buy a service that offers it for a static IP. You can't get a static IP for free. If you're new to web hosting, then I highly recommend BlueHost as your first hosting provider. It's very easy to set up a website and get it running. You can buy domain names from them, and they'll give you a free subdomain if you just want to experiment. The pricing structure is very reasonable, and they have very good customer service.
Is there a 100% free VPN?
I'm looking for a free VPN service that works well in China.
I have tried Tunnelbear, but I find it pretty unusable and not worth the effort to set up. I would like something with very few restrictions on bandwidth (about 50 MB) and a high speed upload/download option.
It doesn't seem like the openVPN service is available in China, so I'm going to need something else. I can't remember if I've ever tried using something like this before but I thought I'd mention it anyway just incase anyone knows. It looks like this will work but it's not a free service, it's only available to schools or businesses. So the cost is 20 per month or 240 per year. The plan you have above won't work, you'll need to use the 'personal' plan which is 5 a month or 60 a year. The speed of your upload will be capped at 10Mbps and there are some other restrictions.
I've used OVPN before when I had a university account with them and found it good, however, you need to download their app, which isn't compatible with Apple devices as they don't allow developers to use the private APIs.88 a year.
I would use the trial for 2 months then evaluate it, if you're happy with it then stick with it and cancel your service with them when your trial is up. If you're looking for something that will be free then there's an option called HideMyAss which offers a free service. It does require a bit of setting up, but once you've done that it seems to work pretty well. It's not as fast as other VPN services, but that's not surprising as it's free. I've found it pretty easy to use, it's a simple app with a few options to change the settings. The speeds that it claims are pretty much accurate, if you're on a slow connection it will try to keep you online as long as possible, it will even automatically re-establish the connection when you come back to the login page.
