How do I turn off VPN on my TV?

Why is my TV saying I'm using a VPN?

I have Comcast cable service.

I do business in a lot of places and sometimes, when I am in places where I have to use a phone number from outside the city I live in, the phone number doesn't work (not sure why yet). A long time ago, Comcast installed DNS and started using an IP address for the cable box when I asked for a phone number to connect for that particular location. This was a problem as far as getting a good call on the landline because it would show me an IP address, but I had a cablebox that still would not work with the actual number. When they told me the problem with that, we installed some kind of software that would let the cable box know where I lived. However, as I read over their documents about it, it made no sense why it was installed. I still have the same problem, my cable box shows up as an IP address now. The software is working for connecting, it says "You are using a VPN" if that means anything at all. Is that just the software that I installed to make the cable box use the correct phone number? Why wouldn't Comcast do it? Is it for security reasons? I can't understand why they would be installing this software. It's a problem that never would have happened before, Comcast has been working on it for awhile. This is one of the big problems for having a company that provides phone numbers, is that you also need a cablebox to dial, and the person has to have a modem in their house to have a phone number dialed. I'm just curious how this is supposed to work, so if someone would explain it to me that would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for being wordy.

Re: ? Comcast was using OpenDNS on an older version (v6) of their system. Most likely it's still there, but because you've got 6,800 clients, they're looking to simplify their DNS setup by switching all of them to OpenDNS.

For the record, it should say you're connected with your OpenDNS IP address. I can confirm this for you, although to be clear, OpenDNS is not affiliated with Comcast or its equipment.

Does Android TV have VPN?

I just got a new TV and the built-in apps seem really nice.

I'm not sure if they're all that useful or not. But, even though it's Android OS and not Android TV, can you also set up an Android VPN for Android TV?

This question was asked on Reddit awhile back, but the responses were a little scattered and confusing (at least for me). So hopefully it'll be more helpful to have this question asked on Quora since more questions and more answers can be added.

I don't see VPN built into the Android TV app. But you could set up a third-party app to be able to create a VPN tunnel. My main concerns is that when the device connects to the internet, the VPN is still using the mobile internet connection, which means it is not going through any kind of security firewall.

I'm not very experienced in VPNs, so I was hoping someone here could provide more details and perhaps provide some alternatives. @c0d3r yes but that will be a third party app if you don't have any other on the device. Can a VPN be set up on the TV so that it can connect to the internet only through the TV (so that it won't use the internet connection through the phone)?

C0d3r Oct 21 '13 at 10:01. VPN only protects you from the internet. Android has other built in features to protect your home network.

If you want to make a VPN to hide the actual device you have to make your own VPN service on your phone, and the TV should be able to connect to the VPN (eg from Chrome) while it's connected to Wi-Fi.e. You can always keep the VPN service running while the device is not connected to Wi-Fi, and if it disconnects it'll get automatically reconnected again.

You can't.

How do you turn off VPN on Android?

We talked about setting up a VPN on Android.

After testing out both OpenVPN and PPTP, here's how you can turn off the option in network settings.

There's lots of VPN apps available for Android. As Android is such a multi-OS platform, you are likely to find apps that work on the many OS versions. We are going to use one called Tox on this tutorial.

The reason why Tox works is because it is a pure Android App, but it uses Java for it's backend operations. So if there is an issue with Java, then Tox will not work. If you want to find out more about Java click here. The same applies to Android.

Tox is an all in one VPN for Android, which means it offers the best of all VPN solutions. You can use it as an openvpn server, so the app provides the ability to use OpenVPN as well as PPTP. Which means it allows you to connect your VPN as soon as you launch the app and gives you the ability to change the type in between. Tox also supports IPV6 and L2TP over TCP / UDP options. What does that mean? It means you will be able to use PPTP over UDP options and OpenVPN over TCP options. Which means that if the protocol requires it, you can use it.

If you are interested, there is even an option that allows you to change the port the VPN uses. So if you wanted a static port, or different port from what the default is using - you can do that too.

All in all, Tox works really well. But if you are reading this article, I assume you will be interested in turning off your VPN after you have setup it in the first place. After reading this tutorial, you should be well informed. So let's get into it.

Setting up a VPN in Tox is very easy. I am assuming you already know how to create OpenVPN configuration files and edit the config file, but you will need to know that in case you need to use another solution to set up a VPN on Android.

I will try to go through everything you will need to do. So we will get started! Download the Tox Android app.
