How do I install and configure FoxyProxy?
In a nutshell.
FoxyProxy can be installed either on the client side, or on the server side of a network. It requires no knowledge of any of its configuration files in order to get it to work. It just works straight out of the box.
When installed on the client side of a network, it can act as an SSH tunnel (as well as other tunnelling protocols), allowing full control over the remote server as if it were in front of your computer. This is useful for situations where using port forwarding is undesirable, such as home use.
When installed on the server side of a network, it can act as a web proxy or a DNS proxy. It doesn't require any additional configuration and is very easy to use.
In this article. What does FoxyProxy do? FoxyProxy is a powerful tunneling tool, supporting both tunneling protocols and a number of different user interfaces, including the popular and cross-platform Gnome desktop environment. It's fully configurable and very easy to use.
Tunneling protocols supported. (in addition to SSH tunneling). SSH is used by almost everyone, so if you want to access and remotely control an Ubuntu server, this should be fine. Also supported is the more obscure HTTP Tunneling Protocol. HTTP is not very common nowadays, but it's still used on many websites and for accessing content on a large number of websites which don't have a good alternative to their own web proxy. It can be set up to connect to various services using the HTTP protocol, and most importantly to display or render any type of media. As the user interface provides options, HTTP Tunneling Protocol will be able to display videos, music, images and even run programs within the client.
How does it work? We will use the terminology of HTTP servers and clients in order to make this article understandable. An HTTP server has some content it would like to share with other clients. It might need to authenticate who the client is in order to ensure that no one else is seeing the data (eg you should not have full access to all of Youtube). It then returns a response to the client showing the location of the data (in the case of a web browser, for example, this might be a web page).
How do I use FoxyProxy on my Iphone?
I am using it on my PC, but it isn't very easy to get connected, which is why I decided to try it on my phone.
My Iphone runs iOS 4.2.1, and I had no idea if it was compatible, or how I would get it set up and what was required.
I downloaded the app and ran it on my phone. I went into the settings, and enabled the "Enable Proxy Auto Discovery" setting, and selected 2.0. When I try to enter the address 127.1, I get an error message saying that the connection failed. Do I need to upgrade my Iphone?
Also, on the same screen, is there a way to see the list of IP addresses of all of the systems on the network, so I can try to manually enter the address of one of the systems? Re: FoxyProxy on Iphone. ? Thanks for your help! I'm sorry I haven't been around for awhile. We are currently working on improving the mobile experience. Currently iOS 4.3 support is incomplete. Once our next release is ready we will be sure to keep you posted. I'll send you an email to inform you about the development.
Thank you for your input and interest in FoxyProxy.
