How do I connect to OpenVPN access server remotely?

How do I connect to OpenVPN access server remotely?

We have an OpenVPN server running on our access-server.

Now we need to connect from our desktop computer to that access-server via VPN. How can we do that? Is there a way to do it automatically?

If you have a Linux access server, you can set up an OpenVPN connection on it and it will work. You just have to make sure that your desktop computer is a client for the OpenVPN connection.

Here's an example of how to do it on a CentOS 6.5 server.

First, enable TCP/UDP port 1701 on the server: firewall-cmd --zone=public --add-port=1701/tcp. Firewall-cmd --zone=public --add-port=1701/udp. Then, you need to enable the OpenVPN interface on the server. If you're running the latest version of OpenVPN, it will probably be /etc/openvpn/server.conf. Open that file in a text editor and search for the line that starts with "client-config-dir". Replace that line with:
Client-config-dir /etc/openvpn/vpntcp. Then save the file and reboot the server. When it comes back up, you'll have a new IP address for the OpenVPN interface.

Now, you need to configure your client computer to use this VPN. From the OpenVPN documentation, this should work: #!/bin/bash. # This script will connect to the openvpn server at IP address 192.168.2
#
# USAGE:/connect.sh 1708
#
# You should now have access to the internet via the remote VPN connection.
Echo "Connecting to server.2 echo "Done!". There are other options to connect from a desktop to an OpenVPN server. In short - install and configure OpenVPN on your server, configure the client (you should be able to do this in the OpenVPN configuration files).

How do I log into OpenVPN access server?

From a different client than the OpenVPN server, I would like to connect to the OpenVPN server.

Is there any way to do this? If you want to connect to OpenVPN Access Server, you need to create a client on the Access Server. You can do so by editing the configuration file under /etc/openvpn. To enable logging on the Access Server, make sure that in the "client" directive in the OpenVPN Access Server configuration file, you have:
Client dev tun0. # Specify the IP address and the UDP/TCP port where the VPN server is listening. remote vpnserveripaddressordnsname 10.2.3 1194
option log-append on. Then, you can access your Access Server with your client on a remote machine by using the hostname of the Access Server (it will resolve to the IP address of the Access Server) or by its external IP address. You should then be able to connect to the VPN server via the Access Server's IP address or by its hostname. The Access Server needs to be configured for client authentication.

Do I have to run openvpn with a config file?

No. All OpenVPN config files are read by the client.

How do I make an autostart script to run my OpenVPN server? Put your OpenVPN config in /etc/openvpn/easy-rsa/ or wherever you prefer. You can create a script like /etc/openvpn/easy-rsa/autostart.sh that contains the following line: /etc/openvpn/easy-rsa/openvpn --daemon. That means when you start your OpenVPN server, it will start with a script. How do I set up a username and password for the VPN server? You must create a username and password. First, create a new file, /etc/openvpn/easy-rsa/keys/server. If you don't have a server.conf file, create one. Next, type this into the file:

# The default ca, cert, key, dh and dhparam files # must stay in this file for OpenVPN 2.0 compatibility ca /etc/openvpn/easy-rsa/keys/ca.crt cert /etc/openvpn/easy-rsa/keys/server.crt key /etc/openvpn/easy-rsa/keys/server.key dh /etc/openvpn/easy-rsa/keys/dh2048.pem dhparam /etc/openvpn/easy-rsa/keys/dh2048.pem

The only difference between the easy-rsa default configuration and the above configuration is that we added the lines ca, cert, key, dh and dhparam.
