What happened to Sybok?

Well, the last we see of him is from the very last shot in The Wrath of Khan.

The first time he's seen again is two years later on Nimbus. It was obvious that they'd been watching him and it would've been too much of a shock to the audience if he had suddenly turned up at the very end like he'd been forgotten.

The idea that one man could survive all those years without anyone recognising him - let alone a crew of Starfleet officers and cadets - seems unrealistic, don't you think? Well, his face has been surgically altered. At the very least, all he needs is new prosthetics. If they're just hiding him in some hidden location and never making any appearance at any event, it's still possible.

If he didn't age, was not recognized, could pass through the corridors undetected and had all his medical needs met by someone else, it would be unlikely that he'd get caught. That's true.

It's easy to forget sometimes. However, I'm not a fan of the alternate timeline explanation for Sybok's return. We find out what happened on Valkyris in the first movie. We see Kirk and McCoy both die at the end of II. Kirk is frozen in the opening of III. Kirk is dead. McCoy is dead. Spock is alone. He can't go back to the USS Enterprise (without McCoy) so he does what he does best: he becomes the most powerful being in the galaxy. With no one to check him, he begins a quest to get what he wants. I'm okay with that. But I don't want to have the villain who was the most powerful being in the galaxy suddenly become the hero at the end. Why? Because, in an alternate timeline, Sybok has never died. He's always just been waiting. And waiting. Waiting for his chance to make the hero look good.

As for Kirk being on that world, that's where the movie begins. We don't get into a debate on what happens with Captain Kirk. We just know it doesn't make sense to bring him back to life. In the real universe, Kirk died. In the alternate timeline, he was resurrected. Which means that the two timelines are one. What we see in II was the real Universe. What we see in III was an alternate reality.

How is Sybok related to Spock?

Spock is Vulcan in origin.

All Vulcan characters of the original series have been explained as Vulcan characters, including Spock and Sybok. A brief description of Vulcan culture is available on the Memory Alpha website.

In "Journey to Babel", when Spock and Kirk visit The Sanctuary, Spock comments on how beautiful the place is, remarking it has a "sparkling blue sky" and "a light breeze blows through". He describes the trees, the mountains and the "clouds that float like wispy castles." Spock also tells of his home planet's weather, where he says, "It's much warmer here than on Vulcan".

In "Catspaw", when Spock is being held captive on Nimbus III by Dr. Klaang, he comments on his own environment, describing it as having a "majestic, rolling landscape. As they move to the river, they find many treessome bearing fruit; some with flowers. Here, the sun is hot, and the air is still and filled with fresh scent". Spock is also told that the planet's atmosphere is composed of "three elements: oxygen, nitrogen, and argon".

During the confrontation with the Nimbus officers, Spock also makes further comments on his home planet: Spock:we have many treessome bearing fruit, others with flowers; a land which changes with the seasons. Kirk: Yes, but you're an emotionless machine, aren't you? I'll bet you can recite the. entire periodic table off-by-heart. I am not aware of any emotion in the universe which I have not already experienced. Spock's home planet Vulcan was a hot desert world with a thin atmosphere of oxygen, nitrogen and argon. It possessed a large magnetic field and a dense atmosphere. The planet's temperature varied from an average of 400 C during the day to -128 C at night.

How much older is Sybok than Spock?

Spock's parents died in 2024 and Spock was 17 then, so I don't think we have enough info to establish any definitive timeline (if he even tells us where or when he was born), but I'd say Spock was almost 40 before they even knew he had a son.

Yes. And since she is a nurse she should know when the birth is due. Or if something happens. But the ship has already been away from Vulcan for a year so things could have gone bad. So, they just keep an eye on her and when it comes time, the Doctor tells her there is a medical emergency. They are not going to have a planned birth

It's possible that Spock was born on the Enterprise and they did not learn of his existence until later, but it's equally possible that he was born in Vulcan space, and it took a while for his parents to come home. And the fact that the crew seems surprised he was a child would indicate that he was much younger than the usual age of a Vulcan baby.

Agreed. I think Spock was born on the Enterprise, as stated above. A long time ago, the Enterprise was a couple of decades old. I imagine that once they got home that Spock was born much younger than a normal Vulcan, probably about 9-10 years old.

What's the point of asking him? It implies he doesn't remember, which is just as likely to be bullshit as the I'm half human, I don't know spiel. If he remembers, it's because it was told to him as a child, no need to ask. Or it can be said in front of others. The latter will just tell how Spock's parents died. Either way, nothing about being human, just a small detail of Spock's past. That detail does not change our understanding of Spock.

Yeah, but if it was all bullshit, he wouldn't need to say it.
