Can I create my own VPN server?
I have a few questions.
First of all, I have Windows 7 x64. Is it possible to create my own VPN server? I want to be able to use a service like PIA, but I don't want to pay the monthly fee for such a service. So is it possible to set up a VPN server on my computer and access it from other computers? I would then just use my own IP address as the server and not the IP address of my internet provider.
Also, what would I need in order to do this? I have a spare PC which I could use as a server. I've never done this before, so I'm not sure what I'd need to get going. Any help would be much appreciated.
You will need to install some sort of router (most are free) and connect it to your PC. This router has to be configured to allow you to connect to it from other computers.
If you really don't want to pay for a VPN service then you could get a cheap router and use OpenVPN. I personally like Strongswan for this kind of thing.

I'm quite new to this kind of thing, so I'm not really sure what I'm doing. Would I need to go to a site like and get the information I need?
I will be setting this up for my own use. So I don't want to use someone else's IP.
Yes, I can use something like OpenVPN or Strongswan. I can't use Strongswan because I don't want to pay for a service that I don't need. If I just used my own IP address as the server, would I be able to access the internet through my PC, or is it better to use a VPN?
In the OpenVPN wiki page it says to go to the website and "Download and Install OpenVPN".
Is there a 100% free VPN?
Yes!
Which VPN offers a perfect solution for you? Keep scrolling to learn how to choose the best. You are here. Are you just looking for something free? Then you are in the right spot! For now, no-one can afford to make their free VPN more efficient than us. We don't earn money from advertising and we don't try to sell your information. Our only goal is to help you enjoy the internet without being tracked.
The internet would not be the same as it is today if people had payed to access it. You see, most of the websites, streaming services and apps wouldn't even exist. Some websites, especially gaming ones, would cost millions in licensing fees. That is why internet services are free and, thanks to VPNs, you can use them for free. No more censorship, no more firewalls and ads. Your data will not be stored and you will enjoy every bit of privacy. Are you just looking for something free? How to select the right one?
There is a common misunderstanding that free VPNs are bad for privacy. Well, the truth is a little bit more complex than that. While freemium may often mean bad for privacy, it doesn't always. A company can actually choose to sell your information and advertise to you when you access their service with their free subscription.
How do I create a VPN network?
You will need an EAP-SIM network account from a service provider, as well as the services that you will use to create your VPN (we suggest using OpenVPN or SSTP). To make a local private network from your mobile device is pretty simple, you will only need to turn the network mode on and off for when you're outside your home or office. In addition, it is strongly recommended that you keep your security settings on the default so as not to compromise your mobile network's security and stability.
Create your new network on your mobile device with your new EAP-SIM account and select Create VPN network then fill in the required information according to your needs. After confirming your connection parameters, and save them for later usage.
Create a new VPN on your OpenVPN/SSTP application and set the configuration according to your network need. Once everything is configured, start the OpenVPN server on your NAS using a command like this: systemctl restart openvpn. OpenVPN or SSTP now becomes your VPN's main host and will maintain a persistent connection between your mobile device and your NAS when you are within the boundaries of your private network (home / office). When you open the network app on your phone and confirm that you are connected to a secure WiFi network, all of your device's web traffic will be routed through your mobile network, so as long as your NAS (private network) is connected to the same network, it should work out ok. You'll be sharing your Internet access over the home or office WiFi network and not directly connecting to the wireless router. This way, all your Internet data will be forwarded over your trusted network.
