How do I log into a No-IP account?

What is the alternative to no-IP com?

I have been trying to find an alternative to no-IP.

Com which is the IP address database of their own products but I've been unsuccessful. What is the alternative?

If you're looking for a service that gives you one or more static IP addresses, look at Amazon EC2 (and the AMIs that are available on it). If you need dynamic IP addresses, then you're going to have to host your own server.

No-IP is no longer owned by the company and it's no longer in business. There was also an official no-ip client that you could use (no longer available) in addition to the free one here.

What's the alternative? It really depends on your requirements, but Amazon's web services and EC2/CloudSites might be worth investigating. You can make your own DNS server and host your own IP addresses. See this question.

How do I log into a No-IP account?

Click the 'Sign in' link at the top of the main window, then enter your username and password.

You can now configure your router from our web interface. See the 'Configure your router' guide for more details.

Can I create a new router? Yes, you can. See 'Manage your router' for instructions.

Do I need a router to use No-IP? Not necessarily. Some routers such as those from Comcast and Cox will forward all traffic going through their own equipment to No-IP.

Can I use another hosting provider? How do I change my DNS settings? You need to have the control panel access account set to an account that has administrative access. From here you can: Add/Remove nameservers. Change nameservers. Modify/Delete zones. Edit Zone files. Change A records. Delete A records. Edit MX records. Change MX records. Add A records. If you want to use Google as your nameservers you need to edit the zone files under ZONE2GOOGLE, which may be something like: /opt/cpanel/ZoneManager/Zones/zone2google/zoneserver-file. Add a record to sub-domain.example.com with an address of 1.1 (or whatever your external IP address is on the internet).

Is No-IP still free?

Hi all, I'd like to ask for a little bit of help here.

I'd like to know if it is still possible to get No-IP for free, even though it is no longer free. I'm trying to get some of my relatives to sign up, but they are thinking it is too expensive to be honest.99 (for the Standard plan).

Also, does anyone know how much it costs to host the no-ip.com domain name, since it's a registered domain name? No-ip.99 (their prices vary depending on the plan you choose), but they do allow you to use your own domain name or else buy a hosted no-ip.com address.40 per year. That's not bad for a full web server and basic DNS functionality, but it's a bit pricey for just a domain.99, that would be a pretty good deal, but you're still going to need to have a web host for it. If you don't want to pay a monthly fee for a web host, then it will probably be a better deal to just buy your own domain name and register it.

I don't have any experience with no-ip.com, but I've never had a problem with buying a domain name from a registrar (like godaddy or ebay) and then setting up my own web host.

The following is a list of hosts offering free web hosting that I've come across while searching on google. I'm sure there are many more, but this is what I came across.

If you're looking for a very simple web hosting service, you might want to consider one of these services. In most cases, it is easy to set up a web site with one of these hosts. The one drawback is that you are limited in how much space you can use and how many domains you can host (one or two), but I don't see why that is a problem. If you want more than two domains, I recommend buying your own domain name and registering it with your web hosting service.

Should I enable DDNS on my router?

Recently I had a discussion with a fellow who is running DDNS service for his router and he asked me about it if it was worth enabling on his router.

Personally I never have DDNS enabled on my network router and until today I was fine. It didn't seem like anything special to do. Today I got on a new PC, connected to the same router and the problem happened that every time I restarted my PC the IP address of the router (which is the DNS server) changed. I am wondering if I am missing something important by disabling DDNS on my router, can you help me out?

DDNS services provide the ability to map a single IP to an "any name" - they make it easy to set the IP address of the device to any arbitrary value, making it easy to host a web site on any networked device. For example, say you have an ip assigned to you in your internal lan as 172.23.12.42 and you want to have the name www.com point to that IP address. You just tell your DNS server that www.com is 172.42 and you're done. You might not always know the IP address of the box, but now you can always access that web site by entering it into your browser.

However, I think I understand your hesitation when it comes to putting that in your LAN router, because it defeats the purpose of a DHCP address - your internal devices receive their addresses automatically from the router based on a pool of available addresses. When you're done with your internal network, you put in an external firewall and have that DHCP server assign addresses that never get reused on the network.

One thing to consider with a DDNS service is that you can run out of names. If you already have multiple machines configured, and you're not planning on adding many more, there's the chance that you can run out of available host names. There are no hard numbers, but I've seen a few clients hit ~4k hostnames before problems started to occur. I would suggest that you monitor your existing hostnames for any unused hosts. If you see that number getting up there, then it's a good time to start looking at DDNS services for your router to help keep track of those hostnames.
