How to copy text from websites that don't allow right-click?

I know that there are a lot of these questions, but I'm still new to this forum and really need help with a problem.

I am having a problem copying text from a website. I have had problems in the past with websites not allowing right-click, and I am just trying to figure out if that is the case now.

In the past, I have been able to copy from a website that doesn't allow right-click using the following: I open up a new browser tab in my computer and paste the url for the website into the address bar, so that the site is displayed on the new browser tab. Then, I click on the "Edit" link in the top right hand corner and select "Copy". The selection is then copied onto my clipboard and I can paste it onto any other website.

However, now when I do this, it seems like the "edit" link doesn't work anymore. The edit link is no longer present in the top right hand corner. The only way I have been able to copy text is by right-clicking on a box in the website and selecting "copy".

Does anyone know what is going on? As you've already mentioned, sometimes websites block right click. There are multiple reasons for this, but usually it's because they're afraid you'll modify your own content.

Some sites block right click due to security reasons. For example, if you visit some banking website, then right click on any of the pages, your browser would warn you that the page is unsafe and so on.

Other times, sites will block right click because they're trying to protect the content. If you try to right click on the image and you're trying to copy the image, the page will ask you to save the image first.

Sometimes, websites will block right click because they're trying to track who is viewing their page. There are many reasons why right click can be blocked. You're going to have to do some research on each website you want to copy from.

How to copy text from a website that is protected?

I would like to scrape from a website, using Perl/Mechanize.

The website uses a login system (not cookie based) and I have to guess the username and the password. I cannot just enter in the login page and fill in the fields on the website because the site is using HTML5 password protection. How can I scrape this information from the webpage without knowing the user name and password? Possible Solution: This website does not provide any security token. Is there any way to get an accesstoken using Mechanize that will allow my program to access these protected pages? You can't read passwords this way. However, you may be able to use your other credentials if the site has an auth token. See my example below:

CMS Dashboard. . . . . For login try. &username=w3tc &password=Password123. And for the auth token it says to add a URL parameter. But I cannot remember if I had to specify the URL of the request or if it used https.

How do you copy text from a site that doesn't allow it?

I have a site that doesn't allow copying and pasting of text.

In case you didn't know, copying and pasting is probably the number one reason people come to this site.

You cannot use a mouse, but you can use a keyboard: Hold down the Alt key and press the right arrow key down through the document. After you have reached the end of the document, release Alt then press the right arrow key down one more time to bring the cursor back to the beginning. You can then select whatever text you like. You will not be able to copy what you've selected using a keyboard however.

Use a screen-capture program to record what you want, then download the program's image file to your computer, then edit the image in Paint/Photoshop. You might also be able to use some form of "screen reader" software to record what the screen is saying, but I haven't used this kind of software in over ten years.
