Why is my PIA VPN not logging in?
This could because PIA doesn't require all their users to log-in (just the ones that access their Internet connections from outside their company's network) so if you set up your account without logging in, you won't have a valid user for that purpose. If you log-in but your account isn't used only as a VPN access method, you will need to have a valid user for something like checking email or browsing to websites via links, etc. In most cases a non-logging policy has little to do with what's logged. Some VPN service providers log the data that you send them (sometimes very detailed), but they do not log what you are doing on their network. This allows them to not break any German law, since technically it's their system that you're doing the online shopping/downloading on.
For a good overview over PIA's practices, see www.tipp.net and follow the link for "Private Tunnel (VPN).
They log all outgoing connection attempts. While I think that this makes perfect sense with VPN services (and PIA are no exception), many clients on our side may not like it, since they only see encrypted connections in their connection history. Even if a VPN is only used for encryption, there's a chance that somebody else sees you leaving the secured network, which would be wrong. That's why the logging has to be done on their side, and the user of the VPN can't see anything untrusted in his/her history.
I'm pretty sure if my connection was logged I would not even register my location since I don't use a VPN for that! If it was logging connections even on my office connection, then maybe. I am not really aware of what it takes to be logged but we are definitely not logged by Microsoft/Skype/Google Talk etc.
I'm still waiting on a reply. If I understand correctly, what I'm asking does not really matter since logging will still happen for PIIf anybody cares, I am currently using the OpenVPN software to get access to the PIA network. I can't imagine it wouldn't log whatever data is transmitted.
Exactly this.
Is Private Internet Access down?
I've run into a problem where my private internet access in Brazil with my ISP (Orange) and my DNS provider (Google) is working great. But as soon as I start getting into the internet with Firefox or Chrome, it's timing out and getting stuck. Other people's sites are timing out just fine. I've tried going into their settings, but it hasn't been helpful. I think it's just a slow speed thing. It seems like that sometimes when I do speed tests in Brazil, things get very slow, while in the states they test fine.
I'm wondering if this is a common issue with people using private internet from Brazil, or maybe something I'm doing wrong? Help would be greatly appreciated! (BTW: If anyone has a better word to describe an issue like this, blocked, I'd like to know). There is no IP address that's being throttled by any network. We check that in a couple of minutes before starting the test. So far we could check 2,500 pages. We check 1,800 pgs. Per minute, so the maximum speed we can check is 3.600 PPM (this happened on the page containing the largest download).
The tests are made with an Android device. The phone has a speed that's higher than your PC, since we have a high data modem. Hi.e. No, this can't be a general issue, as the page with the biggest download should not be a particular case. Usually the largest speed will be obtained on an average size website. This could happen for example if there's a certain JS or a lot of content that is being downloaded along with the page itself.
To get better understanding of what is happening let us look at the following page, . As you see, it takes some seconds before all of the items to appear, the actual download starts at minute 30. And all files are completely downloaded at minute 62.
I believe this is more of a problem on our part, but not sure exactly.
Does Private Internet Access still work?
I got banned from the public network using public Internet access.
I need to talk to someone who knows what happened to me.
I have been trying to get answer from other forum members (even from Private Internet Access employees), but nobody has been able to help. So far, I have received no official response, although I contacted the company through their support page.
I had been using my home internet connection from my private network which is connected to my ISP via a modem, router, and cable from the wall. When my sister visited (she is staying with me) I put her laptop on our LAN (not directly connected to the modem or router, but just as another computer on the LAN). She needed to download something so she used the internet connection. The connection was working great when it worked on its own, but suddenly it stopped working. I tried to get answers from the support page but the contact form wasn't working. At that point I sent them an email explaining what happened.
In the past I have had to turn off my ISP in order to use Private Internet Access. When that happened, I couldn't even use the network that was connected to my ISP; I was banned and could not log into my own WiFi network. Now, after more than two years I am still banned from my own network.
So, I would like to know if anyone else had this problem and managed to get unbanned, or if they have any advice on how to fix my situation. It's not easy to fix, but it's not impossible either. If you want help to be able to use your network you will probably need to contact your ISP. You can write them and tell them about the issue with PIA or PMBut to have some chance of being unbanned, they will probably need evidence that you've not been using PIYour ISP could also give you some extra work to do to prove you're not using the service. In some cases they'll just disconnect you altogether, if it becomes too much trouble to keep you connected.
This might seem obvious, but try to stop connecting to the Internet when PIA or PMA are turned off. Don't use your DSL modem. Keep your router switched off, and disable the WAN IP connection. You might need to reboot your router. Just connect via wifi to see if that works.
