Where can you find a complete list of TLDs?
Is there a standard set of TLDs or do you start from scratch?
Who chooses the TLDs?
From this question I found a list of TLDs and how to create a DNS zone file. For instance this page has all TLDs.
I also found some interesting tools like this, which lists which country is available for a TLD. If you don't need a zone file you just write your own application which uses a DNS library to talk to the DNS servers and gets the records from them. This way you can build whatever you want as long as you give your application access to a valid IP address (eg to a valid name servers you use NS).
How do I find all available domains?
In my DNS provider, I can see the other domains that it has registered in the other zones that I want to know about.
But there are no lists that I have found anywhere for all other zones that any domain is available at.
The reason I want to do this is because I need to see what domains are already reserved at other TLDs. I just want to see what are available domains to register for free.
I just want to ask my DNS provider for this. What would I search for to find it? Thank you in advance! The standard way to do this is to query for a list of subdomains under your domain name. For example, if you own www.com, you can ask for all subdomains of example.
As @Gumbo stated, you could run similar queries for every subdomain you own. It is possible that your DNS provider is not listing all of your subdomains; in that case, they may be able to provide the information you need. In Google's public DNS there is a nice list of all other domains. You can check it here.
What are the available domain extensions?
We will have a detailed list of the available domain extensions soon!
What is the TLD for your site? The TLD (Top Level Domain) is a website's domain name, the part after the www in a web address. It's the extension after .com, .net, .org, .info etc. This domain is what you type into your web browser to find your website.
Here is an example: This is the website that has been mentioned in this article, the domain name is the-best-websites-for-your-new-mum-guide. A TLD is only important when you are trying to rank for a keyword which has a TLD in it. For example, if I am trying to rank for how to create a website for a new mum and I am using a TLD (.com) I will be considered higher than someone else who has a TLD (.uk) because new-mum is more searched than .uk) However, even though I have a TLD in my domain name, I might not rank as high as someone who has the same TLD in their domain name. It's best to check out the TLDs to see how they are performing.
What if I am not in the US and I don't have a . If you are not in the US then you won't be able to register a .com domain name. In this case you will be able to choose a domain name extension that is relevant to your business instead. For example if you are selling How to guides, you could create a site like how-to-create-a-website-for-a-new-mum.com or how-to-create-a-website-for-a-new-mom-guide.com
I already have a domain name, how do I change the TLD? If you already own a domain name, you can only move from one domain extension to another if you buy a new domain name.
