How does a proxy server work?
When you are using a web browser to surf the web, for example, you are using a proxy server that is listening on your local network. A proxy server is a server that relays and forwards web requests to an external website, that is usually a more powerful server. All web browsers (except some of the very old ones) use a proxy server to connect to a website and retrieve content. When you are browsing the internet from your home or office, the proxy server listens on your local network. When you surf the web, your browser makes requests to the proxy server. The proxy server then makes the request to the external server, which is normally a website in a different country. The external server sends back the requested content to the proxy server. Then, the proxy server relays the content to your browser and sends the result back to you.
Proxy servers also offer authentication. Most websites use the HTTP protocol, which uses the username and password to identify the user and determine what content he is allowed to see. For example, when you visit a website you have to provide your username and password to gain access to it.
The proxy server will check your credentials to determine if you are allowed to view the content on the website you are requesting. If the credentials are correct, the proxy server will relay the content to your computer and send it back to you.
How to install a proxy server? First, you need to set up a proxy server on your local network. Open up your computer's network settings, and click on the Wireless tab. Next, look for WiFi Settings. Find the Wireless network named Local Area Network (LAN). On this page, you can add or remove proxy settings. Click on Add.
If there is already a proxy server listed here, you can change it to a manual proxy server. If you want to use the automatic proxy setting, uncheck it and click OK.
Click on the Advanced button. The Network Proxy Server dialog will open. Click on Manual. You can choose to select a proxy server by clicking on Select a proxy server and typing in its IP address.
